MONTREAL — A 19-year-old woman was struck and killed by a Société de transport de Montréal bus early Sunday afternoon, police say.
The accident occurred shortly before 2 p.m. near De Cadillac St. and Pierre-de-Coubertin Ave., near the Cadillac métro station.
There were few details available as of 6 p.m., but Montreal police Constable Daniel Lacoursière said the victim died at the scene of the accident.
"It was an obvious death," he said. "We know the bus was travelling north on de Cadillac St . . . did it slow down at a red light and pick up speed before the collision? Did it stop at the bus stop and hit the victim immediately after? We aren't sure yet."
The bus driver, a 28-year-old woman, was taken to hospital and treated for shock. Police will question her when she is released.
Investigators for both the STM and the Montreal police department were still on the scene late Sunday afternoon.
