首先要做的是选择合适的学习方式及课程。根据前辈们的经验，在蒙城学习英语主要有如下渠道：
1、 Highschool
2、 免费或低收费的英语课程，多数为社区或教会办的
3、 training
4、 college or university program
5、 园友所说的英语证书班，开办的学校有McGIll和UQAM
6、 做英语labour。
我理想的英语学习，至少应该具备两方面的特点：可以有针对性的提高英语水平，可以缓解新移民初期紧张的经济状况。而上述方式中，专门针对语言进行培训的有1、2、5，可以拿到L&B的有3、4、5、6。这样看来，英语证书班应该是不二之选。但事实上，要通过英语证书班拿到补助，还必须符合一些特定的条件。园友们总结的情况是，对于McGill，只能上part-time的program，同时必须有6岁以下的小孩；对于UQAM，必须参加法语考试，通过后才能报考。为什么会有这样奇怪的要求？实际情况如何呢？本人觉得，园友的建议只是指出一个方向，具体情况的核实一定需要自己亲力为之。而且作为一个新移民，如果连这些基本的信息收集能力都不具备，也别指望在异国他乡能够过上好日子了。
关于L&B的问题，园友已经阐述的非常清楚，也都可以在上述的网站和文件中找到。这里我就只说几点我个人觉得值得关注的信息：
要拿到L&B，必须从事经魁省政府认可的fulltime课程学习。魁省政府认可的课程，可在我上传的附件中找到。何为fulltime？也有明确的说法，就是每学期必须修满12个学分以上。但是，某些特定的情况下part-time可以等同为full-time（Under certain circumstances, you could qualify for the Loans and Bursaries Program even though you are studying part-time）。这些情况包括：
You are deemed a full-time student if you are studying parttime,you are enrolled in at least 20 course hours per month and you meet one of the following four criteria:
• You are a single parent and
– you are living with your child who is under age 12 as of
September 30 or
– you are living with your child who is under age 21 as of
September 30, 2009, and your child is a student with a major functional disability or mental disorder.
• You have a spouse and
– you are living with your child who is under age 6 as of
September 30 or
– you are living with your child who is under age 21 as of
September 30, and your child is a student with a major
functional disability or mental disorder.*
• You are at least 20 weeks pregnant.
• You have a major functional disability.
If you and your spouse are students, only one of you can be
deemed to be a full-time student during the award year in
question.
